COVID, Facility Management and workspaces: what if?

Many people and companies are facing the worst crisis in decades: it requires a lot of courage, respect, and determination.

It will certainly take many months to heal the social and economic wounds and regain a semblance of “normal life”. We can only sympathize, empathize, and remain modest.

No one can rejoice in the current chaos. Does this mean that we should avoid the question of repositioning our activities, our way of working, in short, our business model? Every entrepreneur has a duty to be positive and to think about solutions to keep his business afloat and, even better, to develop future strategies.

The pandemic can therefore be an “opportunity” to ask the right questions about processes, logistical support, facility management and workspaces:

  • Is our approach in terms of business flows still adequate?
  • Do we have the right business partners to carry out our activities?
  • Are our processes effective in the face of challenges and competition?
  • Do our employees have the right tools, the right workspaces and - dare we say it - the right management?

Not every company can reinvent itself and change its business model completely. Nevertheless, many should modify certain approaches, replace obsolete processes, spaces that are not very user-friendly and unsuited to new generations and technologies.

It is obvious that this takes time and often some investments, but not initiating certain changes now is to cut oneself off from opportunities for the future.

“Think tanks” and other “Webinars” are currently numerous and there is a form of “overflow” of initiatives that start from good intentions but often miss their “targets”.

The “power” or direction of a company is often a very solitary exercise, but it can be useful, even salutary, to share certain concerns and experiences with neutral people who can bring another vision, ask critical questions and suggest avenues for reflection.

Are the bosses ready for this? It is to be hoped: and if COVID were to open these doors, it would be to everyone’s benefit.

Good thoughts, good luck, good autumn, and good reading.
